Samsung Omnia 7 patch released to allow 7392 update | MobileTechWorld

Samsung Omnia 7 patch released to allow 7392 update | MobileTechWorld: "Samsung Omnia 7 patch released to allow 7392 update"

Samsung has just released a patch that is meant to allow the Omnia 7 handsets to correctly install the 7392 security update. We’ve know for a while that Microsoft halted all Samsung Windows Phone 7 updates because of an unknown issue that had to be fixed but this new development most probably means that the roll out will re-start now and that the solution will be provided in the form of this Samsung patch instead of an “updated” package as announced by Microsoft a couple of days ago.

You can download the patch here and the full instructions here (pdf). It mus be applied if you encounter a 801812C1 error during the update process but I’m going to try it out anyway to see if it actually updates the device’s firmware or not. It’s not yet known if the Samsung Focus will also receive a similar patch.

Update: Just applied the patch to my Omnia 7 and the only thing I noticed is that it has free-d up approximately 100Mb on the device. I wouldn’t be surprised if the patch also quickly deletes some of the cached data on the device.
Update 2: As it was pointed out to me on Twitter, the screenshot above (wich I took from the PDF) shows the 1.3.1.0 version of the update support tool while the EXE publicly provided by Samsung is only 1.2.

Update3: Microsoft has just resumed the WP7 update roll out for the Samsung devices.
